The recent changes, defined as a new global era from a commercial, economic, and geopolitical perspective, are undeniable signs that we must adjust our strategies to remain relevant and maintain a leadership position; otherwise, failure is inevitable. Internally, organizations have recovered from a global crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years. Today, they are adapting to a new socio-economic and political environment, and to the use of new technologies that redefine what, how, when, and where we must act. Therefore, it is essential that team members act accordingly. Technological innovations are developing and advancing at an enormous pace; therefore, teams must be organized to execute diligently and efficiently. Is the team prepared to meet the current demands? Are the team members trained to learn faster? How physically, mentally, and emotionally resilient are the team members? Are there those who disagree with the pace of work and are delaying project progress? Are there saboteurs within the organization? Are there those on the verge of burnout that the leader hasn’t noticed? These and other questions must be analyzed as we go along; the team must maintain discipline and momentum, otherwise, goals will not be achieved on time.
Training team members in emotional management is fundamental to making things happen. For example: objectively managing team discussions without personal attacks; challenging projects to conserve resources.
Team-building exercises help recreate complex situations where analysis, focus, testing, deliberation, and the delivery of results are all part of the group exercise to achieve specific goals within a set timeframe. If we conduct exercises where individuals experiment regardless of whether they make mistakes (because the entire team learns from them), evaluate the collective decision-making process, promote curiosity, and encourage repetition of exercises as many times as needed, then this learning, along with individual and group growth and development, when applied to real-life situations where results are demanded without question and on time, is where we see how emotions can be managed positively and how people learn to be resilient.
